Happy Holidays!!
Wow! I cannot believe the time is already here! The kindergarten students have been learning about holidays celebrated all around the world. They loved using their passports and traveling to many different countries. They even had time to make a hand-made gift for their loved ones (I hope the gifts got home safely without any cracks).
I just wanted to take an opportunity to say THANK YOU!!! (for all of the fun and thoughtful gifts you presented me and our classroom last week) and HAPPY HOLIDAYS! to all of my students and their families! I hope you each have a relaxing, safe and very splendid holiday celebration with family and friends!
Take care and I look forward to seeing you back at school on January 4th!

The coming week will be busy as we focus on reviewing letters and letter sounds in language arts along with learning a new sight word and blending letter sounds to make words!
In math, we will continue to concentrate on writing the numbers 0-10 correctly. If you are working on these at home, here are the rhymes we have been using to help us remember and the students love saying them!
0 - Round and round just like an "o," now you've make the number zero!
1 - Start at the top and down you run. That's the way you make a one.
2 - Make a candy cane and give it a shoe. That's the way you make a two.
3 - Around a tree, around a tree. That's the way you make a three.
4 - Down and across and slice through the door. That is how you make a four.
5 - Short neck, belly fat. Mr. Five wears a hat.
6 - Make a "C" then in you go. Now you've made a six you know.
7 - Across the sky and down from heaven. That's the way you make a seven.
8 - Make an "S" and then don't wait. Go back up and make an eight.
9 - Make a circle, then add a line. That's the way you make a nine.
I look forward to meeting with everyone for conferences this week. Please be sure to check your child's backpack on Tuesday evening - I will be sending their report cards home, so you can be sure to see them and bring any questions you have to our conference.
If you need a reminder on your conference day and time, please feel free to call or e-mail me.
Thanks!

Welcome back after a fun and festive Halloween weekend! Our party last Friday was a great success - fun was had by all! I will try and post party pictures very soon.
This week will bring another exciting end to the week - Grandfriends Day! This is a day to celebrate those special adult friends in our lives. Parents, if you have not returned the yellow permission sheet to me for Grandfriends Day, please do so by Thursday of this week, thank you!
Also, our BOOK FAIR in the media center is going on all week long! Please stop in - there are some great books with low prices (you can do some early Holiday shopping!) Because the book fair is going on, we will not be having our weekly media class on Wed. so please feel free to keep your library book one extra week.
This week I will also begin doing some assessing because report cards will be coming home soon! (in just a couple of weeks!)
Let's have a great week!

Updates:
This week is already going by quickly! I apologize I did not get these "updates" up earlier in the week. We have been working hard on writing the uppercase and lowercase letter Nn and then will be practicing the letter Pp as well. We are finishing up our unit on patterns in math and will begin focusing on writing and counting our numbers. Today we also began talking about "Who Am I?" in Social Studies and are creating our own books to create clues so the reader can guess who we are.
Thursday we will be taking our first field trip of the year. Please be sure to have your child dressed for the weather....boots, coat, hat and mittens are highly recommended, for we will be outside on the majority of our trip.
Friday, please be sure to turn in your Innisbrook Fundraiser packet, even if you did not sell any items, we still need the packets returned, thank you! Also, if you would like to order any books through Scholastic, please do so by this Friday, Oct. 9th!!
Have a great week and enjoy your week off next week!

We are getting more familiar with the daily routines of the classroom, I am just hoping it will cool off in the next couple of days as our classroom gets to be extremely warm for the duration of the afternoon when the sun shines in. In the coming week we will be focusing on the letter Rr, how to write it, the sound it makes and words that begin and end with the letter Rr. We have also begun our math curriculum which first reviews concepts such as sorting, organizing and directional words. Some of the vocabulary words we will be using throughout the coming week will include: differ, stalking, mellow, automatic, perfectly, and resemblance.
We will also get to meet our 4th grade buddies (in Mr. O'Brien's Class) for the first time on Thursday afternoon. The students can't wait!
I am also hoping to start our science unit about trees this week as well. The trees are already starting to change colors and we will be studying them throughout the seasons the whole year.

UpDaTeS:
The kindergarten students had a good first two days last week, I hope we can continue with that in our first five-day week ahead! We are still learning the routines of the classroom and remembering our responsibilities. On Monday, Sept. 14th, our principal, Mrs. Swanson, will introduce the new Character Ed. theme for the coming year, the students are going to love it! We will also begin reviewing and learning the letters M and S. Along with some new vocabulary with words such as:
Complained, Talent, Confident, Reverse, Ability and Encourage.
Also parents, so you are aware, the kindergarten teachers will be doing assessments during the morning on Thurs. Sept. 17th. I will be in the class pulling students one at a time to find out which language and math skills they know and a substitute will be teaching just for the morning.
Hope you all had a wonderful weekend! It was great to see some of you at the Welcome Back BBQ last Friday!
Thanks for your support!

This week we will be finishing Chapter 9 in Math on Measurement and then moving into Chapter 10. At this time of year we are starting to wrap things up within some of our units of study. (I can't believe it is that time already!) We recently finished our unit on fish in science. Hopefully your child shared their journal they made about the fish with you over this past weekend. We have also just finished our last observation of the life cycle of trees through the seasons since starting in September 2008. We continue to focus on learning our sight words and practicing comprehension and the idea of expression in our guided reading groups. I am amazed at how much each student has grown this year in thier reading skills. What great learners we have here in K-2. I hope you all enjoy the week!

Welcome to Our Neighborhood!
In kindergarten we study who we are, our families and our communities. This past month we discussed the idea of a neighborhood. What makes up a neighborhood? Who lives in our neighborhood? We had many questions and had many answers. In the end we each created our own neighborhoods, giving them their own unique names and now understand what it means to be apart of a great community!
