Schedule for the Week:
Monday, 23: Music
Tuesday, 24: Art & Evening Parent/Teacher Conferences
Wednesday, 25: P.E. & Library, also bring a 1$ to wear a hat for "Pennies for Patients"
Thursday, 26: No School - Teacher workshops during the day & Evening Parent/Teacher Conferences (4-8pm)
Friday, 27: No School - Daytime Parent/Teacher Conferences (8-3pm)
With this week being only three days, we do not have a letter of the week or a word family we will be concentrating on. We have added a new sight word: at and we will be reviewing letters we have learned and focus on our reading groups every day in the afternoon.
Today we read a wonderful story that was a highlight last week at the book fair. Library Mouse by Daniel Kirk is a story about a mouse who lives in the school library and writes stories that the people in the library love. The students and teachers love the books so much, they want to meet the author of these amazing books! Will the mouse reveal himself?...... Read Library Mouse and you can find out! As an extended activity to this book, the students are working on their own "mini" books.
Tuesday, we will have the pleasure of learning about another great art piece through the "Aventures in Art" program.
I am looking forward to meeting with each of you at conferences!

A few updates.....
Hello Parents/Guardians!!
I just wanted to give you a few updates........
1. For one of our fun Valentine activities/centers for the day will involve several pieces of bulk candy. If you would be willing to donate a bag of bulk candy it would be much appreciated and then I will cover the rest myself. Thank you! (Candies such as Tootsie Rolls, Starburst, Smarties, Etc. would be great!)
2. Please make sure to send back your child's ziploc bag of 100 things for the 100th day of school by Thursday February 19th.
3. Conferences are coming up at the end of February. I sent a piece of paper with the date and time of your child's conference in their Friday Folder last week. I am pretty sure I was able to accommodate everyone's request of day and time, but if there is a conflict, please contact me and we can reschedule.
4. I am looking for some parent volunteers to help me with Kindergarten Scrapbooks. :-) Don't worry, you do not have to be creative, just willing to glue and cut. The work can also be done here at school or you can take it home and then return it to me. I have all the supplies, I just need some helping hands. :-)
5. We do have a field trip coming up on Wednesday, March 11th to the Lowry Nature Center. Our class will be going in the morning from 9-11:30am and will be back in time for lunch at school. I have two parents who signed up to chaperon at the beginning of the year. We can only have two parents from each class ride the bus with us, but if more parents want to come, you are more than welcome to meet us at the Lowry Nature Center and spend the morning with us, we just wouldn't have room for more people to ride with us on the bus. I hope you understand. If you have any further questions, please contact me.
I think that is all for now! :-) Thank you for reading and for your continued support throughout this school year!

Sight Word Being Introduced: in
This week we will be concentrating on learning the letter "Y" - making sure we use the correct sound and writing it nicely with the correct diagonal lines. (Those diagonals can get a bit tricky!)
The students have also been doing a GREAT job of working in their reading groups with thier partner. I am so proud of how they have been working together so nicely and performing each task to the best of their ability.
We are also working hard on all those sight words and word families. If you are looking for a fun activity to do at home, feel free to make memory cards of words in certain word families and cards of the sight words, then play the "Memory" game or make up funny rhyming sentences.
A few of the word families we have been working on are:
- an (such as: fan, man, tan, Dan, Nan)
- ad (such as: dad, mad, sad, lad, bad)
- ag (such as: bag, tag, sag, lag)
- at (such as: sat, bat, rat, scat)
Let's have a great week!
