Schedule for the Week of Oct. 20-24

Reading: Lesson 6

  • Phonological Awareness: rhyming words
  • Alliteration: recognizing words that start with the same sound
  • Reviewing High-Frequency Words: I, a, my, the, go, can, to
  • Building -at, -an, and -ap words
  • Introducing Aa (short sound)
  • Continuing to identify and discuss characters in a story
  • Reviewing Robust Vocabulary: gusto, surround, remind, prepare, urgency, lonely
  • Continuing to work on recognizing and writing sentences
  • Discussing news and writing our own news stories
  • Continuing with centers
  • Using iPads (for the first time this year) to recognize and illustrate the beginning, middle, and end of a story
Reading Lesson 5 Homework (Due back Friday, October 31)

Leveled Readers: (feel free to work on these at home with your child. We're working with them in class too)

Lesson 6 Red (focuses on the letter A and words that start with A)
Lesson 6 Blue (focuses on the sight word CAN and repetitive sentences, remind students to look at the picture and look at the beginning sound of the word to help determine the actual word)
Lesson 6 Green (more complex sentences, focuses on basic CVC words and on the repetition of the same words such as pass.)
