Language Arts Home Practice Lesson 1.3 (Will come home on Friday, November 6th in Friday Folders.
- PLEASE work on this with your child for 5-10 minutes a week. We need YOU as a partner in helping your child become fluent with letter recognition, sound, and sight words. Thanks!
We will continue Daily 5 centers this week which will include opportunities for students to read to self, work on writing, practice word work, listen to reading, and read to others. They will work in groups of 3-4. Centers will run Tuesday-Thursday and include:
Read to Self: students pick out a letter or sight word book to work on reading letter sounds, basic sight words, basic CVC words, and even some basic sentences. (Note: Personalized book bags and guided reading groups will start this week!)
iPad Read to Self/Read to Others: students use Raz Kids to listen to a story, read a story, and answer comprehensive questions about the story. This week, students can also read a story with their partner or on their own.
Word Work: students choose specific activity to work on that focuses on sight words and uppercase/lowercase letter recognition (EX: iPad Sky Fish game, magnet letters, sight word cube role/graph, putting letters in the right order, writing sight words on a white board, etc...)
Work on Writing: students will work on creating complete sentences, using uppercase letters, lowercase letters, and punctuation. They will use sight words to help create these.
Listen To Reading: students will listen to (and follow along/track with their fingers) a story and respond by discussing and illustrating the main idea of the story. Students can complete this using markers/paper or on their classroom iPad
Art: Students will use watercolors to paint fall leaves.
Math:
- Unit 2:
- 2.10: 2- and 3-Dimensional Shapes: Rectangles and Boxes
- Objectives: write the numeral 7; draw 7 objects; visualize rectangles as sides of boxes; order numbers 1 through 10
- Vocabulary: before, after, slanted, rectangle, light, heavy, long, short, thick, thin
- 2.11: Practice with 5-Groups
- Objectives: identify and order numbers 1 through 10; count out and make 6 through 10 with 5-groups; identify numbers 1 through 10 from the number word; graph to compare two numbers; write the numerals 1 through 5
- Vocabulary: before, after, equal, not equal, more, fewer, tiny, little, medium, giant
- 2.13: Explore Number Patterns
- Objectives: establish links between math and the real world, write the numeral 8, draw 8 objects
- Vocabulary: partners, zero, teens, tens, ones
- 2.14: More Repeating Patterns
- Objectives: make repeating patterns, visualize rectangles as sides of boxes,
- Vocabulary: rectangle, square, pattern
- Students will also use Dream Box for 10-20 minutes each day to help personalize their math experience.
- Students will also have an option to choose what page to work on in their math book (as long as we have already covered the concept)

Grandfriends' Day
- Grandfriends' Day is on Friday, November 6th. Please make sure you send back the yellow sheet, as that helps us determine how to set up for the day and if end of the day plans are staying the same or changing.
- Conferences
- Please bring your child with to conferences, as it is their conference and they should share insight about their learning strengths and goals as well. :) I look forward to meeting with everyone!
