Schedule for the Week of Oct. 13-17



Hello! I'm sorry this blog update is a day late!

Remember, we have a short week coming up.  No school Wednesday through Friday.

Here's what we'll be covering during Monday and Tuesday.

Reading:
  • Phonological Awareness: rhyming words
  • Reviewing High-Frequency Words: I, a, my, the, go, can
  • Introducing Aa (short sound)
  • Continuing to identify and discuss characters in a story
  • Reviewing Robust Vocabulary: appetite, savor, urgency, aroma, surround, traditions
  • Continuing to work on recognizing and writing sentences
  • Introducing graphic organizers and working on taking notes about text we read together
Reading Lesson 5 (due back Friday, October 24)

Leveled Readers: (feel free to work on these at home with your child. We're working with them in class too)
Lesson 5 Red (focuses on the letter C and words that start with C)
Lesson 5 Blue (focuses on the sight word GO, uses pictures to help students figure out words, remind students to look at the picture and look at the beginning sound of the word to help determine the actual word)
Lesson 5 Green (more complex sentences, focuses on repetition of the same words such as Cam.)

Math:
  • Unit 1: (Assessing Unit 1 on Monday, October 20)
    • 1.23: Scenes of 1
      • Objectives: explore groups of 1
      • Vocabulary: scene, pair
      • 1.24: Make a Class Graph
        • Objectives: make and read a graph; identify shapes

      • Comparing/contrast coniferous and deciduous trees

      • Are all families the same?
    • Listening
      • What makes a good listener?
      • How do we become better listeners?

    Other News:
    • Homecoming Parade on Friday, October 10th.  All are welcome to join and be part of the fun parade.  If you are interested, meet at Hilltop...parade starts at 5:15PM.
