Schedule for the Week of December 21 & 22

Enjoy the Holidays and Winter Break - school will resume on Monday, January 4th. Looking forward to seeing you in the New Year!

Language Arts (continued from last week)

  • Letter(s): Tt
  • Phonics:
    • Review the sounds of /m/, /a/, and /s/
    • Identify the sound /t/
    • Associate the letter Tt with the letter sound
    • Blend sounds to read the word am and at explore the -am and -at word family
    • Spell -am and -at words
  • Sight Words: each, which, how

  • Determine text importance
  • Continue to build concepts of print
  • Build academic and sight word vocabulary
  • Build fluency through choral-reading
  • Echo-read to build fluency
  • Build comprehension through retelling
  • Take part in whole group and partner discussions
  • Practice reading a rhyme with pausing to a full stop
  • Use effective pausing to make their reading sound like talking
  • Demonstrate active listening skills

Writing/Concepts of Print

Journals: Use Uppercase Letters and End Punctuation Correctly
  • Put spaces between words
  • Write from left to right
  • Begin a sentence with an uppercase letter
  • Write some high-frequency words
  • Use end punctuation correctly
  • Share a message orally
  • Discuss periods and exclamation points
  • Write some CVC words

Language Arts Home Practice Lesson 3.3 (Will come home on Tuesday, December 22 in Friday Folders. We send home the practice sheets after we have worked on the content in class.)
  • PLEASE work on this with your child 2-3 times a week for at least 10 minutes. We need YOU as a partner in helping your child become fluent with letter recognition, sound, and sight words. Thanks!
  • Don't forget to utilize Raz Kids and Dream Box at home as well! (Great things to work on during break!!)

Centers this week include:

Read to Self: students pick out a letter or sight word book to work on reading letter sounds, basic sight words, basic CVC words, and even some basic sentences. Students choose books from their personalized book bags. Students read books based on their specific reading level, although some books are slightly above and some are slightly below.

iPad Read to Self/Read to Others: students use Raz Kids to listen to a story, read a story, and answer comprehensive questions about the story. Students can also read a story with their partner or on their own.

Word Work: students can choose to play a variety of sight word games, work on creating CVC words, letter recognition, rhyming, play CVC word memory, or play the very popular iPad app, Sky Fish (it's free and good!)

Work on Writing: Students will work on writing the letter Tt. They will circle their best work. When finished, students will practice writing words that start with Mm, Ss, and Tt

Listen To Reading: students will listen to (and follow along/track with their fingers) the story The Little School Bus. Then they will put the story into sequence order.

Creation Station: students will be given a variety of materials and can create an Olaf Snowman. Let the creativity FLOW!!

      • Objectives: sort by shape, size, and color; generate shape patterns; use equal and not equal signs; develop spatial concepts
      • Vocabulary: equal sign, is not equal to sign, between, sorting

Holidays Around the World (December 16, 17, 18, 21)

Kindergarteners have had a blast learning about various winter holidays around the globe and will visit 2 more countries on Monday, Germany and Japan. They've already explored Sweden, Mexico, Holland, Israel, and England!  They will bring home all their fun projects and their "passport" on Tuesday.
