Schedule for the Week of February 8-12

Language Arts
Unit 5: Make Connections/Make Inferences
  • Letter(s): Cc
  • Phonics:
    • Identify the sound /k/
    • Associate the letter Cc with the sound /k/
    • Listen for medial sounds
    • Blend CVC words
    • Listen for words that rhyme and suggest pairs of words that rhyme
    • Spell CVC words using C and letters previously learned

Writing/Concepts of Print

Journals: Develop Voice; Express Feelings
  • Use uppercase and lowercase letters correctly
  • Use appropriate end punctuation
  • Write CVC and high-frequency words
  • Understand that writers use two uppercase letters and two end punctuation marks when writing two sentences

    Language Arts Home Practice Lesson 5.3 (COMING SOON!) (Will come home on Friday, February 12th in Friday Folders. We send home the practice sheets after we have worked on the content in class.) THANK YOU to all the families who have been working on these homework sheets and reading with your child! 
    • PLEASE work on this with your child 2-3 times a week for at least 10 minutes. We need YOU as a partner in helping your child become fluent with letter recognition, sound, and sight words. Thanks!
    • Don't forget to utilize Raz Kids (reading) and Dream Box (math) at home as well!

    Centers this week include:

    Read to Self: . Students choose books from their personalized book bags. Students read books based on their specific reading level, although some books are slightly above and some are slightly below. These books are updated every 1-2 weeks. Students also work in guided reading groups with Mrs. Koepp.

    iPad Read to Self/Read to Others: students use Raz Kids to listen to a story, read a story, and answer comprehensive questions about the story. Students can also read a story with their partner or on their own. After reading 2 stories, student have the choice to work on Scratch Jr. (a basic coding program) or Dream Box.

    Word Work: students can choose to play roll a word, CVC word memory, CVC word puzzles, rhyme time, or a variety of other CVC/sight word based games. Students are making lots CVC words with short a, i, and o in the middle. This week also includes some new letter/word board games. 

    Lots of choices! We discuss every week how to choose something that we need extra help with or that we want to get better at.

    Work on Writing: Students will work on writing the letter Cc. They will circle their best work and be encouraged to discuss their work on Seesaw. We will also be introducing class journals in which students can choose a class journal to work in after they finish handwriting...some options include a sports journal, food journal, friends journal, vacation journal, toy journal

    Listen To Reading: Students listen to the readers theater, At School. They will then take turns reading the various parts and have the opportunity to record themselves reading the story on Seesaw. We are working on "reading like we talk"

    Art Center: We will be reading Eric Carle's, The Mixed Up Chameleon and painting our own mixed up chameleons during centers.

    Math: Unit 4 (Partners, Problem Drawings, and Tens)
      • 4.9: More Patterns with Shapes
        • Objectives: explore shapes and combine them to make new shapes; compare groups to determine which has fewer objects
        • Vocabulary: triangle, hexagon, trapezoid, parallelogram, less, more, diamond, fewer
      • 4.10: Break-Apart Numbers Through 10
        • Objectives: find sets of partners for 10; record sets of partners for 10, 6, 5, 4, 3, and 2.
        • Vocabulary: partner, Tiny Tumbler, Math Mountain, unknown partner
      • 4.11: Numbers Through 30
        • Objectives: show numbers through 30 with 10-sticks and centimeter cubes; order and compare numbers through 30.
        • Vocabulary: tens, ones
        • 4.13: More Patterns with Shapes and Repeating Patterns
          • Objectives: explore shapes and combine them to make new shapes; make repeating patterns with shapes, sounds, and actions; draw matching lines to see more and fewer
          • Vocabulary: hexagon, trapezoid, parallelogram, triangle, more, fewer, extra

      Social Studies:
      • Digital Citizenship, posting safe content on the internet (we are using our class Twitter account for this) and some websites such as netsmarts.

      Other News::
      • Valentines Day Party on Friday, February 12th 2:00-3:00pm (letter was sent home to all families last Friday)
        • Send in homemade Valentines box/bag--if time is an issue, email me and your child can decorate a bag at school
        • Treats can be sent in, but I will send them all home and let parents decided who can eat what
        • Please only have your child write From "your child's name," as this will make passing out Valentines much easier
        • We have 20 students in the class
