Schedule for the Week of December 12-16

The Holidays are upon us and we are exploring many of them here at school in the coming week! 

Monday we begin Holidays Around the World!  
Your Kindergartener will get to "travel" to all sorts of countries (other Kindergarten classrooms) to learn about winter holidays that are celebrated all around the world.  They will get the opportunity to learn about Germany, Holland, Sweden, Japan, Mexico, England, Israel, and the United States.  At the end of the week, your child will get to show you what they made in each country.  Fun! Fun! Fun!

In Reading:
Unit 3: Determine Text Importance/Identify Sequence of Events - Week 2 Objectives (December 12-15)
·       Letter(s): Oo
·       Phonics:
o   Identify the sound /o/
o   Associate the letter Oo with the sound /o/
o   Listen for medial sounds
o   Blend CVC words
o   Listen for words that rhyme and suggest pairs of words that rhyme
o   Spell CVC words using O and letters previously learned
·       Sight Words: here, to, my
·       Build academic vocabulary and concepts related to readings
·       Identify sequence of events using a graphic organizer
·       Identify and discuss nonfiction text features
·       Identify and discuss text structure (sequence of events)

Writing/Concepts of Print (week 8)
Journals: Begin with an Uppercase Letter; End with a Period
·       Put spaces between words
·       Write from left to right
·       Begin a sentence with an uppercase letter
·       Write some high-frequency words
·       Use end punctuation correctly
·       Share a message orally
·       Discuss periods and exclamation points
·       Write some CVC words

In Math:
  • 3.10: Explore Attributes: Shape, Size, and Color - Objectives: sort by shape, size, and color; generate shape patterns; draw numbers 6 through 10 as 5-groups. Vocabulary: rectangle, circle, triangle, square, pattern
  • 3.11: Practice Addition and Subtraction Stories: Park Scene - Objectives: establish links between math and the real world; tell addition and subtraction stories; solve story problems; draw numbers 6 through 10 as 5-groups. Vocabulary: 5-group
  • 3.12: More Attributes: Shape, Size, and Color - Objectives: sort by shape, size, and color; generate shape patterns; use equal and not equal signs; develop spatial concepts
  • 3.13: Build Teen Numbers with Square-Inch Tiles - Objectives: make teen numbers using 5-groups; graph to compare capacity. Vocabulary: balance
  • 3.14: Attribute Card Activities - Objectives: sort by shape, size, and color; generate shape patterns; use equal and not equal to signs. Vocabulary: sort, equal sign, is not equal to sign
Other News:
    • Since winter has made a grand presence, please make sure your child has warm gear to wear outside. We do go outside every day. 
    • Please send Friday folders back every week (preferably Monday or Tuesday) 
    • The last days before Winter Break (next week!):  Tuesday we will do fun projects/games in the afternoon!  Wednesday we will have a Pajama and Movie Party!
