Schedule for the Week of January 11-15

Language Arts: Unit 4: Summarize and Synthesize/Analyze Story Elements

  • Letter(s): Ii (short Ii sound)
  • Phonics:
    • Identify the sound /i/
    • Associate the letter Ii with the sound /i/
    • Listen for medial sounds
    • Listen for rhyming words
    • Blend sounds to read and write the words in the -am, -an, and -at family

  • Sight Words: is, up, other
  • Review concepts of print
  • summarize and synthesize a story
  • Analyze story elements: characters, setting, problem, solution
  • Retell story events
  • Ask character questions
  • Reread stories to build fluency

Writing/Concepts of Print

Journals: Revise for Word Choice: Descriptive Words

  • Put spaces between words
  • Write from left to right
  • Begin a sentence with an uppercase letter
  • Write some high-frequency words
  • Use end punctuation correctly
  • Share a message orally
  • Discuss periods and exclamation points
  • Write some CVC words
  • Use descriptive words in discussion and writing


Language Arts Home Practice Lesson 4.2 (COMING SOON!) (Will come home on Friday, January 15 in Friday Folders. We send home the practice sheets after we have worked on the content in class.)
  • PLEASE work on this with your child 2-3 times a week for at least 10 minutes. We need YOU as a partner in helping your child become fluent with letter recognition, sound, and sight words. Thanks!

Centers this week include:

Read to Self: . Students choose books from their personalized book bags. Students read books based on their specific reading level, although some books are slightly above and some are slightly below. These books are updated every 1-2 weeks. Students also work in guided reading groups with Mrs. Koepp

iPad Read to Self/Read to Others: students use Raz Kids to listen to a story, read a story, and answer comprehensive questions about the story. Students can also read a story with their partner or on their own.

Word Work: students can choose to play roll a word, CVC word memory, CVC word puzzle, rhyme time, or a variety of other CVC/sight word based games.

Work on Writing: Students will work on writing the letter Ii. They will circle their best work and be encouraged to discuss their work. When finished, students will practice writing words that start with Mm, Ss, Tt, Aa, and Nn

Listen To Reading: students will listen to (and follow along/track with their fingers) a story. They will then retell the story through drawing on paper.

Dream Box/Scratch Jr.: Students will work on their favorite math app, Dream Box or work on the basic coding app, Scratch Jr.

      • Objectives: use more and fewer to compare quantities; develop spatial concepts

    • 3.19: Build Teen Numbers with Classroom Objects
      • Objectives: group the ten inside teen numbers; match partners and totals for teen numbers; see and record partners for numbers 2 through 6
      • Vocabulary: estimate, benchmark
    • 3.20: More Graph Drawings: Match and Compare
      • Objectives: describe relative position using ordinal numbers; establish links between math and the real world; tell and solve addition and subtraction stories; use the words more and fewer to compare quantities
      • Vocabulary: first, second, third, fourth, fifth, more, fewer
      • 3.21: More Teen Numbers with Classroom Objects
        • Objectives: group the ten inside teen numbers; match partners and totals for teen numbers; use the words more and fewer to compare quantities
        • Vocabulary: more, less, fewer
      • Students will also start working on a graphing project in which they will collect data through surveying their classmates (favorite vegetable, fruit, color, etc..) and graphing out the results. Fun!
